Claude, an AI research company, has announced the release of its Claude 3 model family, comprising three new state-of-the-art models: Claude 3 Haiku, Claude 3 Sonnet, and Claude 3 Opus. The models offer improved analysis and forecasting capabilities, nuanced content creation, and conversing in non-English languages like Spanish, Japanese, and French. Opus, the most intelligent model in the range, exhibits near-human levels of comprehension and fluency on complex tasks and shows stronger vision capabilities than the previous models.
The Claude 3 models are designed to provide near-instant results, with Haiku being the fastest and most cost-effective model for its intelligence category. Sonnet is twice as fast as Claude 2 and Claude 2.1, making it ideal for tasks requiring rapid responses like knowledge retrieval or sales automation. Opus delivers similar speeds to the previous models but with much higher levels of intelligence.
One of the key features in the new Claude 3 models is their long context and near-perfect recall capabilities, providing users with a 200K context window upon launch, with the potential to exceed inputs of 1 million tokens. Claude 3 Opus not only achieved near-perfect recall on the "Needle In A Haystack" evaluation, surpassing 99% accuracy, but in some cases, even identified the limitations of the evaluation by recognizing that the "needle" sentence appeared to be artificially inserted into the original text by a human.
The new Claude 3 models are also designed to be as trustworthy and transparent as they are capable, with several dedicated teams tracking and mitigating a broad spectrum of risks, ranging from misinformation to autonomous replication skills. Claude 3 shows less bias than its predecessors, according to the Bias Benchmark for Question Answering (BBQ). Models come with robust recall capabilities for processing long context prompts effectively.
Claude 3 is now generally available in 159 countries, and Opus and Sonnet are available through Amazon Bedrock and in private preview on Google Cloud's Vertex AI Model Garden. The company plans to release frequent updates to the Claude 3 model family in the coming months, along with advanced agentic capabilities, tool use, and interactive coding to enhance its models' capabilities. The models are available to use in tasks such as task automation, forecasting, strategy, data processing, customer interactions, and content moderation.
